Gathering in “Square Slavia” is one of a series of monthly protests caused by the death of 16 people last November 1st of last year by the tent collapse at the recently renovated railway station in Novi Sad.
Protesters blame the government for the accident, accusing it of corrupt practices, while the state leadership calls students, social groups supporting them and opposition “roadblock” and “terrorism”, and student protests and actions a <x4-revolution”.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq said before the protest he expects violence at the end of the rally.
Today, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) will hold a rally at “Pionir” Park, and during the day it has brought several buses with its supporters.
Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic warned that “any efforts for violence will be prevented and sanctioned”.
On the other hand, students say they have not done and will not call for violence at any time, and that students will remove their vests at nine o'clock in the evening and will officially end the protest. They point out that they are not responsible for what might happen next. /Periscopi/
