Speaking ahead of the publication of the Strategic Defence Review, Starmer said:
If you want to prevent conflict, the best way to do this is to prepare for conflict. ”
According to the New York Times, the plan includes billions of pounds worth of investment in nuclear forces, increased risk production, ammunition reserves, and modernisation of military equipment.
This commitment to reconstruction comes in a tense international context between Russia's increased aggression in Ukraine, the partial withdrawal of the US from support for Europe, as well as increasing global tensions, especially in the Indo-Peace and Middle East.
Clearing the strategy came just hours after one of the most intense air attacks recorded in the three-year war in Ukraine, where Ukrainian fears hit deep military bases within Russian territory, which further stressed the need for advanced military preparation, according to the British government. /Periscope/
