His lawyer, after receiving his letter from prosecutors, told the media that the SPAK is keeping Ilir Meta in custody, though according to him there is still no evidence against him.
Lawyer Kujtim Cakran said Meta is kept in prison for political reasons, while quoting the prosecution's letter, which, according to him, argued that “expected evidence and response for act-expertation”, have demanded extended investigations.
Meta's lawyer said it's meaningless that SPAK has not found evidence for Meta for six years, and again requires extended investigative deadlines.
Meta has been in custody for 7 months and, according to the lawyer, the prosecution has failed to meet the legal obligation to ask the Court every two months to continue the detention measure. We'll take the case to the Constitutional Court and then to Strasbourg. How come SPAK, even after a year, says there is no evidence to follow up on Meta? Here's a letter where the prosecution wants to resume the deadline by another six months,” he said.
According to the lawyer, this is the second time required extension with a dry “ ” letter, according to him, saying that “expect evidence, are expecting an act-expert of former age”. “But what does Mr. Meta have to do with mother-in-law expertise?
“Meta is staying in custody on charges that neither SPAK knows about. They have six years and still have gathered no evidence for former President Ilir Meta. We don't understand why he's kept in custody. Why is Ilir Meta kept in custody? That's the question. We're not against the investigation, he's pro-investigation, but why is he held in custody?
The lawyer stressed that everyone knows Meta is being held on political issues and cited the way he, according to him, was arrested: “This prosecution started 6 years ago. If the SPAK wanted, it would have influenced their colleagues in Tirana's Prosecution for investigations, to whitewash how Ilir Meta was kidnapped by those policemen. ”
