Secretary - General NATO, Mark Rutte, has stated that NATO defence ministers are meeting in Brussels to prepare the summit in The Hague, and also to make key decisions to improve defence.
At a conference before the start of the summit, he stressed that they will address continued support for Ukraine and the urgent need for peace.
“Bota is becoming increasingly dangerous. There is a brutal Russian war against Ukraine. The threat of terrorism and strong global competition. We will continue to protect our people and our way of life”.
“Therefore we must do it NATO is a stronger, more just and deadly alliance. At this summit, we'll take a big step forward. We will strengthen our defence by agreeing to new ambitious goals. These objectives determine which concrete forces and abilities the Allies must offer to strengthen our defence”.
“Air and missile defenses, long-range action weapons, logistics, major ground maneuver formations are among our top priorities. We need more resources in order to be prepared to face any threat and fully implement our collective defense plans”, Rutte stated.
Rutte said that to meet new targets, it is clear that much higher costs will be needed for defence. /Periscopi/
