Reeker: You will see the U.S. directly engaged in the Western Balkans region, focus neither in Europe nor in the region

Former Assistant Secretary of State Philip Reeker spoke at “Formin Pupin” organised in Belgrade today for US access to Europe and the Western Balkan region after the return of Donald Trump for the second time as president to the White House, Periscope broadcasts. Reecker said 2025 is [...]
Reeker has said that 2025 is a year of transition and that Washington will deal with the Western region and Balkans as it had happened in the 1990s, when this part of Europe had been at the centre of the focus and at the top of the American foreign policy agenda.
The American diplomat has said that this period of time starting in 2025 should be understood as a transitional moment. He has said further that the US will not be seen engaging directly in the region, as has happened over the past 30 years in the Western Balkans region.
“2025 looks a lot like 1999, some say it looks 1973 as far as the US looks at the world. And you'll see the U.S. as directly engaged, as it has been for 30 years in the region”, Reeker said.
Reeker has said that because he works in Washington, from contacts within the State Department and Administration, the US is not focused on either Europe or the Balkans.
I am located in Washington and have contacts within the State Department, in administration and outside. They're not focused on Europe, they're focused on the Balkans. That means they will engage or do not have active embassies and diplomats dealing with diplomacy and economic issues”, Reeker has said further.
