Nenad Rassic, acting minister and deputy in the Kosovo Assembly, has come out against the Kosovo Government's decision and the Pristina Constitutional Court, which has brought down the Gracanica municipality a decision for the Serb holiday of “Vedovdan” to cover public spaces with Serbian flags by not being an official party in the Republic of Kosovo.
“In line with the applicable Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and relevant legislation, we remind the public and all relevant institutions for the guaranteed rights of the Serb community, when it comes to using its national features, including the flag, coat, language, letter and other identity symbols”, Rassic wrote in a post.
“We invite all competent institutions to fully respect constitutional and legal guarantees to ensure the continued implementation of these rights in practice, without political pressure, discrimination or administrative barriers.
Respect for the rights of the Serbian community for using its features does not represent anyone's identity, but a confirmation of Kosovo's commitment as a democratic society based on human and minority rights.
In the interest of peace and co-existence, we expect a constructive approach of all actors and continued implementation of the law”, he said.
