The quake struck at 23:17 local time, 18 km from the island of Rhodes, at a depth of 68 miles [68 km], said EMSC.
A 5.8-magnitude earthquake has hit the area in front of Marmaris in Muğla, according to data from the AFAD, Haberler reports, broadcasting Klankosova.tv.
The quake, which took place at around 2:17 a.m., has felt strongly in surrounding cities like ãozmir, Manisa, Aydın, Denizli, and Antalya. According to official data, the depth of the earthquake was 1,760 miles [67,91 km].
Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlicaya announced that as a result of the panic, a 14-year-old girl named Afranur Günlü lost her life, while 69 others were injured.
The mayor of Marmaris, Acar ãolü, declared that the earthquake felt strongly and that emergency teams are on the ground. So far there are no reports of major material damage or other victims.
