Protests have spread from Los Angeles to New York and several cities in Texas. Those in New York were mostly peaceful, but numerous arrests were reported.
The National Guard is located in Texas, and protests have started in at least 10 cities in general, including Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Austin and San Francisco.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed that the National Guard will be deployed in his country, reports BBC.
The Texas National Guard will be deployed at different locations throughout the country to ensure peace and order. Peaceful protest is legal. Hurting a person or property is illegal and will result in arrest. The Texas Guard will use all means and strategies to help law enforcement”, Abbott said.
Police are moving around downtown Los Angeles and shooting rubber bullets, reports a BBC journalist who stresses that a police officer told him that he too could be arrested despite the fact that he is a member of the media and is allowed to operate freely in a curfew.
The Los Angeles Police Department says that with police time in effect in a part of Los Angeles, “mass arrests” are under way.
In an X post, Los Angeles police said: “Grups continue to gather at 1st St between Spring and Alameda. These groups are being addressed and massive arrests are under way. The traffic ban is in effect. ” /Periscope
