The rapporteur for Serbia in the European Parliament, Tonino Picaula, has stressed European Union institutions must have a clearer approach to Serbia, while criticising Council and European Commission leaders for different positions.
He has stressed that European institutions must see what is happening in Serbia and that Serbia and its president, Aleksandar Vuciq, “are taking steps back to democratic standards”.
Picula has added that the idea of the Serbian “world” is dangerous, while saying that the Western Balkans belong to the EU and “jo imaginary projects under the umbrella of Serbia”, N1 reported.
The European Parliament is the only EU institution to examine the situation in Serbia in a critical way. Others, like the European Commission and in part, have different approaches. Why? It would be good to address the leaders of these institutions. We have to level and standardise access to Serbia because the EU is not only a community that shares important characteristics both the common market and the currency is also a community of common values and risks. And I don't see the Serbian leadership following these values. They are more interested in European funds”, he said. /Periscope/
