NATO expands satellite control in Ukraine to prevent any escalation from Russia

NATO is strengthening its satellite surveillance capacities to monitor large areas of the earth and closely follow military movements in Ukraine and along eastern borders with Russia. The Supreme Commander of the alliance, Pierre Vandier, made that known. Vandier stressed that new technology will enable NATO [...]
Vandier stressed that new technology will enable NATO to identify military maneuvers and field operations in real time, including possible respect for a ceasefire in Ukraine, a sensitive issue for European states.
“ “We will be able to tell them: we are watching”, he said in an interview for Bloomberg News.
NATO also announced that it has chosen American space technology company Planet Labs to implement the new pilot project, dubbed Smart Indication and Ward Broadad Area Protection (SINBAD). This system uses artificial intelligence to constantly analyze satellite images and to issue warnings of any suspicious change.
In addition to eastern borders, technology will also be used to monitor the Arctic a region of growing strategic importance for NATO in the face of increased interest from Russia and China.
The SINBAD project is the initial phase of a broader satellite monitoring programme that NATO plans to officially launch in January 2026. /Periscope/
