Merz names NATO summit historic

According to him, allies “are not doing this, as some have claimed, to honour the United States and their president”, but rather the actual danger they face, mainly from Russia.
Merzi has also underlined Germany's plan to increase defence spending with the aim of turning Bundeswehr (German military forces) into the strongest conventional <x0-power force in Europe, which is ready to protect the state and come to the aid of allies.
For a very long time we in Germany have ignored the warnings of our Baltic neighbours to Russia. We've realized the mistake. There's no turning back from this”, he said.
Regarding the issue of delocation of German troops in Lithuania, Merzi has added that Lithuania's “security is also the safety of Germany”.
Last month, the German Chancellor had visited Lithuania to mark the first shipment of German troops to a foreign country since the end of World War II.
