The Democratic Party of Kosovo has gathered the Steering Council today, where it has been discussed the current political developments in the country, the February 9th election outcome and preparations for local elections.
Chairman Krasniqi criticised Albin Kurti for institutional blockade and political arrogance, though The PDK has offered solutions to exit the vacuum.
“We have requested the change of candidate for the Speaker of the Parliament. We also accepted Albin Kurt's invitation to the meeting, which was more like a trap to get us into a bag with other parties, as a rejection party. We have proposed holding a comprehensive meeting by the president, held on May 15th. And we have also offered the possibility of creating a new government by PDK, LDK, AAK and Initiative, with Prime Minister Bedri Hamza, not party interests, but Kosovo's interest. The PDK has been and is ready to take responsibility to build a government of the opposition yesterday, with a dynamic plan to address emergency challenges for the state and citizens -- a government that would give priority to economic recovery, national security, strengthening institutions and partnerships with the US and EU. Today, more than ever, Kosovo needs a government that works, not blocking”, he said.
On the other hand, Krasniqi called for the mobilisation of all members and structures for preparations for local elections.
“Srike, aiming to compete with the most dedicated, honest and competent people to deepen the good governance we have built in many municipalities in the country. Our goal is clear: Reconfirm victory in all municipalities that we lead today and based on the good governance of these four years, that is more than attainable. To win in several other municipalities where potential is extraordinary. But the victory we aim cannot be achieved without you, without your support, energy and contribution”, the leader added PDK.
Chairman Krasniqi expressed concern over the decision Specialised Chambers in The Hague for continuing custody of Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
“The decision of the Specialised Chambers in The Hague to continue detention of President Thaci, Chairman Kadri Veselin, Banca Jakup and Rexhep Selimi is an injustice we dare not normalise. Refusing parole despite the outcome of the evidence is a violation of fundamental principles of justice. We seek, not favors, but justice. The PDK will not stop demanding that this injustice end, in accordance with international law and with respect for our collective sacrifice”, Krasniqi said.
Even candidate The PDK for prime minister, Bedri Hamza, thanked all members, supporters and party structures for support, as well as for the major commitment to the outcome achieved.
Meanwhile, PDK Secretary General Vlora Citaku stressed that the February 9th result has been among the best the party has received, called for the mobilisation of all structures even for the race in municipalities.
“I hope that in this spirit of unity and the quality of candidates, we will also succeed in local elections”, she added.
