French police in Nice have seized 50kg of cocaine, worth about threem euros, in a major operation and have arrested two people, French media reported today.
Drugs were discovered at the end of May during a raid on an apartment near the centre of Nice, prosecutor Damien Martinelli said, according to Le Figaro.
Police officers found five bags containing a total of 50 kilos [50 kg] of drugs on the scene.
Two people found in the apartment were arrested, a man from Nice who has been sentenced several times for drug-related criminal acts, as well as a woman who has police records for minor criminal acts.
Both will stand trial for charges of procurement, transportation and possession of drugs.
An Audi Q3 vehicle was seized during the operation.
The latest police operation comes amid high tensions related to drug trafficking in the Nica region, according to Le Figaro. /Periscope/
