The Food and Veterinary Agency has established unprecedented stoppage measures for imports of sheep and goats from the region of Shkodra and Kukes in Albania.
This agency reports that the decision came after announcing a confirmation of the PPR's outbreak of disease (Five des Petits Ruminants) on animals of goat type in the Shkodra District of the Republic of Albania.
The “Border Authority will add control measures to all border checkpoints with Albania, aimed at preventing the introduction of this disease on the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. Peste des petitis ruminants, commonly known as the plague of sheep. The disease infects mainly the young ruts like goats and sheep. The disease is transmitted mainly through direct contact, the source of infection are secretions and the dung of sick animals. Clinical signs of the disease are: high temperature, nazal leak, eye inflammation, lower appetite, diarrhea or death”
The Light Ruminant's subx0 is not a zoonotic disease, so it does not transmit to humans and poses no danger to public health.
