During the Future Forum 2050 in Moscow, Lavrov stressed that Kosovo broke free from referendum and without the will of the people, calling it an unfair act of the West.
He used the occasion to justify Russian aggression in Ukraine, accusing Europe of supporting “terrorist attacks and campaigning to eliminate Russian language in the Donbas and Crimea regions. Lavrov particularly mentioned Great Britain as a powerful Ukrainian aid to these operations.
“They relied on the principle of self-determination of peoples on the front page of the UN Charter. Through this principle, in a situation where there was no war, no armed conflict risks, they took over and removed Kosovo from Serbia and said, "It is the right to self-set peoples." Even though there was no referendum there, no one there committed itself to”, Lavrov said./Periscopi/
