In the coming months, there could be a re-agement of the United States of America on the Kosovo dialogue issue- Serbia and the table of the Oval Office of leaders of the two countries. Charles Kupchan, of the U.S. Foreign Relations Council, warned this.
Former American President Barack Obama's adviser said what could happen in the Balkans but also the global arena.
“In the first term made progress in the ties of Kosovo and Serbia and Israeli recognition. Europe should think about leading this process. For his own safety and the U.S. to be cheaper to stay in Indian-peace. In the next 6-8 months, you will see a decrease in the military presence in Europe. I think you will also see a re-angage of Washington in the Kosovo-Serbia and Trump dialogue to bring leaders of the two countries to the Oval Office, Trump sees himself as peacemaker”, he said at A2 CNN.
Kupchan expressed his faithfulness in reaching difficult and painful compromise, as he described peace between the two countries.
“We still have on the table a prospect offering light at the end of the tunnel, and it is the agreement EU negotiators and the parties agreed, although they did not sign. But so far we are in a difficult position than without political stability in Belgrade and the same in Pristina. I think it's gonna be a day and not too far away in time for both countries to compromise hard and painful to achieve peace. Kurti has made several mistakes during his mandate, which has taken action despite having consistent with Kosovo's right to sovereignty, were provocative and took steps back in dialogue. But it is not Kosovo's responsibility that the side that has drawn the foot is Serbia, but must Belgrade and Pristina make the difficult compromise”, he said.
Kupchan expressed optimism about the integration of the Balkans into NATO and the EU and does not see the return of large-scale conflicts.
“We still have much work to do in the Balkans. Pristina has undergone major development, but relations with Serbia remain weak. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the government remains divided on ethnic lines, Republika Srpska remains a difficult actor, Russia uses this space in Serbia to take advantage of these gaps in the region. I do not expect the return of a broad scale conflict, but it is very important for the US and the EU to lead and use diplomacy to push Pristina and Belgrade forward. There's still a lot of work to do, but I'm optimistic about the final outcome. I predict the full integration of the Balkans into the EU and NATO”./Periscopi/
