A statement made during a media conference in NATO Summit margins at The Hague, United States President Donald Trump again cited Kosovo and Serbia as an example of the conflicts that, according to him, have been resolved during his mandate.
This is the third time in a few days Trump cites the Kosovo issue.
Asked about the situation in Ukraine and the danger of Russian President Vladimir Putin's territorial ambitions beyond this country, Trump said that “is possible” for Russia to have other goals, but added that some of the major international conflicts are already “under control” thanks to its intervention.
In recent weeks we took care of India and Pakistan, Kosovo and Serbia, Congo is coming, Rwanda is coming. It was a great war... cut off heads all over Africa. No one has ever done anything like it,” expressed Trump in triumphal tone.
He added that the situation between Kosovo and Serbia is among those that “has been brought to a conclusion”, referring to his administration's role in mediating Kosovo- Serbia in previous years.
The same with Kosovo and Serbia, they have been fighting for years, and as you know, we have brought it to a conclusion,” Trump stressed, reports EO, Transmit Periscopi.
Kosovo mentioned even by secretary NATO, Mark Rutte, who has talked about the Western Balkan region, namely Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Asked by a journalist for not remembering the Western Balkans in the summit statement, Rutte has said NATO continues to be focused on the region through its troops in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Rutte has said KFOR continues to be in Kosovo and EUFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“E have visited the region, I have had talks with leaders in Bosnia and Kosovo. We are very involved as NATO, as the EU is also very involved. We are closely co-ordinated with Kaya Kallas and Ursula Von Der Leenen”, Rutte said.
“We continue to be there, nothing change”, the NATO secretary has added further.
Even Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan has spoken of the situation in northern Kosovo and the presence of Turkish KFOR in the country.
Erdogan said that members of Turkish KFOR are in the Western Balkans region “for peace and quiet”, while adding that while Turkish KFOR is there, he hopes there will be no problem.
“As you know, Turkish KFOR is in the region. Why is he in the region? For peace, for calmness, and while we are there, may God have no problems there”, Erdogan said at the media conference after the NATO summit in The Hague, as he was asked about the situation in the country's north by a Kosovo journalist. /Periscope
