European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has called for the quickest formation of institutions in Kosovo a necessary process for advancing reforms linked to the European Union.
After the recent elections in Kosovo, it is essential to form institutions quickly and move forward with key reforms in the judiciary, media and public administration. A functional government and functional assembly are essential for Kosovo to benefit from the European Development Plan”, Kos has said, reports RTK, broadcast Periscope.
The European Commissioner spoke to the European Parliament's Foreign Policy Committee about the integration processes of countries in the region.
Kosovo remains the only state in the region with European prospects for which the application for obtaining candidate status has not yet been addressed. Marta Kos confirmed the readiness to handle this document, but stressed that the demand for it must come from EU member states.
It cautioned that dialogue and content from unilateral actions are the only way to advance towards European structures.
The European Commission is ready to prepare an opinion on Kosovo's EU membership once the Council demands that. But let me be clear: Kosovo's path to the EU runs through dialogue on normalising relations with Belgrade, not through unilateral actions”, it has added.
As far as other countries in the region are concerned, Commissioner Kos described that in Serbia there are regrasses in the reform process. She criticised the Serbian president's visit to Moscow, praising that these actions are becoming more difficult for the state.
On the other hand, Martha Kos praised Albania and Montenegro's progress in the process of membership negotiations and encouraged other countries in the region to advance in reforms. /Periscope
