The event occurred on Saturday, when his neighbour, Christophe B., 53, shot him to death and injured another man of Turkish descent.
Shortly before the arrest, the suspect published Facebook videos with open racist languages and calls for violence against Muslims, inciting fears in the Muslim community in France.
Interior Minister Bruno Retaillau named the crime “crely racist”, adding that it could also be “anti-mysliman” and “terrorist”. National Prosecutor's Office Against Terrorism (PNAT) has launched an investigation, for the first time, for such a case linked to right extremism.
Muslim communities and religious leaders have strongly condemned crime, warning of increased hate speech and the danger of radicalising the extreme right in France. They have linked this murder to the incident on April 25th, where 22-year-old Abubakar Cisse was stabbed to death at a mosque in southern France./Periscopi/
