He has stressed that the EU official has suggested that the judiciary has remained consistent in implementing the Brussels agreement and does not prefer a second agreement on the integration of Serbian staff in the north, as such a process would politicise the justice system.
It has been nearly three years since the resignation of the Serbian community's judges, prosecutors and administrative staff in the north. The issue has recently been discussed at a meeting that Kosovo Judiciary Council leader Albert Zogaj has held, with European top diplomat Kaya Kallas, who remained in Kosovo.
Zogaj says he has suggested that the judiciary has remained consistent in implementing the Brussels agreement and does not prefer a second agreement on the integration of Serbian staff in the north, as such a process would politicise the justice system.
“
He added that the possible return of Serbian judges and staff should occur through their individual request and be assessed within the system, based on professional criteria and that political discussions should not be raised on this.
On the other hand, last year, according to established statistics, courts in the north and its branches have achieved work performance of over 120 percent.
Lawyer Mahmut Halimi also indicates that the materials of nearly 20 years old have been treated.
Until a year ago, the situation has been overloaded, because, as we know, the withdrawal of Serbian judges and prosecutors has reflected in worsening the situation. But with the appointment of new judges in departments and the trial of serious crimes, a greedy consolidation has been achieved, in particular during this one year and more. Thus, it has been achieved in the subjects where the prescription of '%s' has been endangered, and a very large number of judges are engaged about those cases of subjects that date back more than 20 years”, lawyer Halimi said.
Judges, prosecutors and administrative staff from the Serbian community to the Constitutional Court and Prosecutorship in Mitrovica resigned in November 2022, following the Kosovo government's decision to reregister cars that had illegal license plates issued by Serbia. /Periscope/
