KB raises alarm: 600 businesses from Kosovo moved to Albania only during 2024

The Kosovo Alliance of Business (AKB) has raised serious concerns about the dangerous trend of distributing Kosovo capital and investments abroad, calling this phenomenon an economic alert to the country's future. According to data released by GDP, during 2024, about 600 active companies from Kosovo have moved their capital to Albania, with a total value of investments amounting to 100m euros, representing a 32% increase compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, Kosovo's quantum investment stock in Albania since 2020 so far has reached around 450m euros.
The GDP stresses that this is not only a reflection of interest for new markets, but a direct consequence of the unfavourable business climate in Kosovo, where lack of institutional support, legal and fiscal uncertainty, as well as a lack of local capital incentives, are pushing Kosovo companies to seek opportunities outside borders.
“The capital is the blood of the economy and Kosovo cannot progress by losing its business blood”, said the head of GDP, Agim Sahin, warning of deep economic and social consequences if this trend does not stop.
In this context, KB has requested:
The urgent development of a National Economic Pact, with the participation of state institutions, the private sector and the diaspora;
Structural reform from the Parliament and the Government of Kosovo, to create an attractive climate for domestic investments;
Fair and equal treatment for local capital, with the elimination of discriminated barriers.
The Alliance has demanded that local capital be seen as a national asset that must be protected with long-term and stable policies so that Kosovo can develop from within and not poor by financing the development of others./Periscopi/
