This attack came at a time when tensions between the two countries are at the highest level in decades, boosting fears of a wider escalation in the Middle East region.
International response was immediate, while Russia, one of the leading actors on the global stage, showed deep concern for this escalation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by agency Ria Novosti, strongly condemned actions that could lead to further destabilisation of the region, writes Ansa.
“We are deeply concerned about the escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran and strongly condemn any action that increases the risk of military conflict in the Middle East,” said Peskov.
This development occurs as Iran has consistently refused to end its nuclear programme, claiming it is for peaceful purposes. However, Israel views this as a existential threat and has insisted on military intervention to stop it.
