According to the Associated Press agency (AP), Iranian state television has reported that Khamenei has appointed General Abdolrahim Mousavi as the new head of the Armed Forces, replacing General Mohammad Bagheri. Mousavi has previously served as commander-in-chief of the Iranian Army.
Likewise, General Mohammad Packour has been appointed leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, instead of General Hosseyin Salaam. Revolutionary Guard, founded after the Islamic Revolution of 1979, is one of the most powerful military and political institutions in Iran.
