Israel has claimed the air strikes undertaken on June 13th have killed four senior Iranian Army generals, including three of them from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the most powerful military force in the country.
According to Israeli authorities, these unprecedented attacks targeted Iran's nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories and military commanders, with the aim of preventing Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon, writes RELPeriscope broadcast.
The following are the data of four reported generals who were killed:
José Salam
Major General Hosseyin Salamis has been commander-in-chief of Revolutionary Guard since 2019.
It had been under international sanctions since 2006, as “person involved in the Iranian ballistic missile programme”, according to a UN Organisation Security Council resolution.
Salam also appeared on sanctions lists of the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, and Japan.
Mohammad Bacrey
Major General Mohammad Bacheri was chief of Iran's Armed Forces General Staff since 2016, and officially the second most powerful figure in the army, after supreme leader, ajatos Ali Khamenei.
It was established in the ranks of the Revolutionary Guard, which dominated the highest structures of the Iranian Army, and controls the planning, operations, intelligence, secret and irregular operations, as well as internal security.
Revolutionary Guard has been declared a terrorist organisation by the United States.
Gholam Ali Rashid
Major General Gholam Ali Rashid was deputy commander general of Iran's armed forces and was considered one of the most respected military figures in the country.
Since 2015, he headed the central headquarters of Khatham-ol-Anbia, the highest operational unit of the Iranian Army.
Since 2016 this headquarters has been separated from the General Staff and has taken over operational command and control.
Amir Ali Hayizadeh
Brigadier General Amir Ali Hayzadeh was commander of the Revolutionary Guard Air Force since 2009.
Under US sanctions since 2019, Hayzadeh was a key figure in Iran's missile and drone programme, and played a central role in recent operations against Israel.
He became internationally recognised when he went on television directly to admit that the Revolutionary Guard had accidentally crashed the 752 flight plane of Ukrainian International Airlines in January 2020, blaming the “human error”. /Periscopi
