Police have drawn tear gas towards protesters who have gathered in front of a police cordon near Serbia's presidency on Saturday evening, at the end of a student-organised protest.
Two protests were organised earlier in the day -- one of the students who have been blocking universities at the state level since the end of 2024 -- and require holding early elections, and the other declaring they support Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq.
After the protest held in Slavija Square has been officially declared completed, a group of masked men has clashed with police in the Serbian capital.
They've been seen throwing bottles and stuff towards police officials.
Many police officials, including the gendarmerie unit, attend the protest area.
Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has strongly condemned the participants' attacks on the Slavija Square march on members of the Interior Ministry”.
He has said he will take all measures to restore public order and that all those who attacked the police will be prosecuted.
Vuciq himself published a video before violence broke out from Pioneer Park, where students gathered for him, saying that <x0lockers lost”.
“Students won, lockers lost. Proud with these young people” has written the Serbian president in Instagram.
According to him, there have been three times fewer people in Saturday's protest than on March 15th, when a massive protest has been held.
According to Vucinqi, students will return to universities and thank those who oppose the blockades.
Students hold the institutions responsible for the collapse of a shelter at the Novi Sad railway station in November last year, which has resulted in the death of 16 people, so they are calling on the Government to submit to President Vuciq a proposal to disperse parliament and announce new elections.
“Time is over, victory will be ours”, mass student protests in Serbia continue
The second requirement is to interrupt the gathering of government supporters who claim to want to learn. They have told authorities until 9: 00 a.m. to meet their demands./Periscopi/
