A powerful explosion occurred on the night of June 3rd at the “Zi of the Zavolzhsky” Motors plant in the Russian region of Nizhny Novgorod, triggering a major fire at the industrial facility. According to local media reports and agency U n NN, the explosion was followed by an intense glow of flames seen from a distance.
Russian media, including SHOT, report that the fire began after a tank truck exploded inside the plant's territory. The flames then spread rapidly into a chemical workshop and then on its roof, risking much of its industrial structure.
According to reports, a man is injured and has severe burns.
ZMZ is one of the main factories in Russia specialising in the production of gasoline and oil engines for civil and industrial vehicles.
The event comes in the background of a wide scale operation of the Ukraine Security Service (SBU), codenamed “Spider-Mantrend”, which has caused increased concern in Russia in terms of internal security, especially in the transport and logistics sector.
After the incident, Russian authorities have launched massive search of trucks across the territory of the Russian Federation. These inspections have caused major roadblocks and have significantly slowed the circulation, affecting supply chains in some areas.
So far no official reports of victims have been given, but investigations are under way to determine the exact cause of the explosion and whether it has anything to do with a sabotage act. /Periscope/
