Soroka Hospital in the southern Israeli town of Beersheba has been hit by a ballistic missile, Israeli officials said, as Iran launched the latest wave of revenge attacks in the country.
Unverified social media images showed people running through dusty corridors and debris, and doctors standing outside among the ruins of the building.
After the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah has reacted with harsh tones.
Tehran's “Tirans will pay a heavy price”, Netanyah said in an official communiqué distributed to the media, calling Iran a terrorist regime targeting Israeli civilians.
According to the Israeli prime minister, Iranian missiles were launched against Soroka Hospital, one of the largest medical institutions in the south of the country, as well as against Israel's central civilian population, including areas such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, where significant explosions and damage were reported.
Netanyahu described this act as a barbarous and unprecedented attack on civil infrastructure, underlining that Israel has the right to defend itself and will act decisively to prevent Iranian aggression.
A hospital spokesman reported <x0 damage to the hospital and major injuries in various areas were also heard in central Israel with several other direct shots reported. Blasts were heard on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem./Periscopi/
