According to him, recent events constitute a serious escalation of the conflict: Israel has undertaken attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, while Iran has reacted with hundreds of fears on Israeli territory. This military clash last night has significantly increased fears of a wide regional conflict.
Germany has strongly condemned Iranian attacks, stressing:
“We strongly condemn the uncontrolled Iranian attack on Israeli territory. Iran's nuclear programme constitutes a violation of the Treaty for Nonproliferation of Nuclear Arms and poses a serious threat to the entire region of Israel, especially. ”
Minister Waephul has underlined that Israel enjoys the legitimate right to protect the existence and security of its citizens, but has also called for content and avoidance of further escalation.
In conclusion, he stressed that Germany remains committed to diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of the conflict, in close co-ordination with European partners and the United States.
