The UN and other major aid groups have refused to co-operate with the GHF over concerns that this foundation has been designed to help Israel's military goals.
“The GHF, said correctly, has been, from a humanitarian point of view, a failure”, said Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN agency for humanitarian aid, O CHA, during a media conference in Geneva.
“They are not doing what a humanitarian operation should do, which is providing help to the people they find and in a safe way”.
Laerke added that the UN has prepared the operation for relief distribution and that they are waiting for Israel to grant permission to launch distribution.
The GHF began operations on May 26th, after Israel had cut off supplies to Gaza for more than two months, causing a major shortage of supplies.
The GHF claimed to have distributed almost 2.6 million meals on Thursday alone and over 18.6 million since it started operating.
The war in Gaza began in October 2023, when Hamas the Palestinian group declared a terrorist organisation by the US and the European Union attacked Israel, killing about 1,200 people and kidnapping another 250.
Israel has pledged that it will continue the war until Hamas' destruction and the return of remaining hostages.
As a result of Israeli offensive, more than 55,000 people have been killed on Palestinian territory, and the UN has warned that almost the entire population of the territory is on the brink of famine.
