The case of mistreatment of a dog in the Pristina municipality shelter has been condemned by animal protection organisations.
Public Services, Protection, and Salvation Director Bekim Brestovci has appreciated the act unacceptable. Meanwhile for the mistreatment of animals, protest has been warned this Friday.
The public shelter of the dogs in Hyvali, houses about 1,000 and 300 people off the street. But one of them, days ago, was seen being mistreated by an employee there. The act was condemned by Pristina municipality officials.
Brestovci, explained to Radio Kosovo that the mistreatment was committed by a private company employee who makes the security of the facility, not by municipal staff. He made it known that criminal speculation has been raised against this person.
What has been done with automatism is suspended. We through our contract manager are also launching a criminal charge against him. It's an unacceptable”, Brestovci said.
Abuse of animals has also been condemned by animal protection organizations. “Leader Foundations for Animal Rights”, Elza Ramadani, has said that as an organisation, they have presented numerous criminal allegations, including the latter, but that there has been no reaction so far.
We have over 400 criminal cases. Even for this last case in public shelter we have set up criminal outcry. Unfortunately, no one was convicted except for one case last year, when a owner beat his dog and then the dog died. This is the only case the owner was held 48 hours”, Ramadani said.
And with the change and fulfillment of the Kosovo Criminal Code, the preservation and protection of animal rights have advanced, with each mistreatment of animals being fined, or imprisonment for up to six months.
Unlike the initiative of several animal rights organisations on Friday, June 13th, it will be protested before the municipality's object. Protests according to these organisations are reportedly caused by the community's not transparency with the animal protection community./Periscopi/
