According to Costa, the court is “gurmel of international justice” and that its independence and integrity should be protected at any cost, Reuters reported.
These comments by the top European official were made a day after the official Washington imposed sanctions on four JNP judges, in retaliation for the international judicial body's decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as an earlier decision to open investigations concerning alleged war crimes by American troops in Afghanistan.
The order includes the names of judges such as Solomy Balungi Bossa from Uganda, Luz del Carranza from Peru, Raine Adelaide Sophie Alapini Gansu from Benin and Betty Hohler from Slovenia.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had declared that these judges “were actively involved in illegal and baseless JNP actions targeting America or our close ally Israel”.
