Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan has called for stronger solidarity among Islamic nations to counter Israeli action in the Middle East, accusing Israel of causing regional and global uncertainty and comparing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with Adolf Hitler.
Speaking at the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), the Turkish leader also warned against a new “rend Sykes-Picot” in the Middle East, referring to a secret agreement in 1916 between Western powers to divide the region.
“
It is known that in 1916, the English and French met secretly to determine their spheres of influence and mutually agreed control if the Ottoman Empire were to be divided between an Allied victory agreement during World War I, writes euronews, conveys Telegrafi
The agreement suggested that France have control or influence over present - day Syria and Lebanon, and Britain over Iraq, Jordan, and parts of present - day Palestine.
Erdogan also described conditions in Gaza as worse than those of Nazi concentration camps during his speech at the OIC meeting.
“Two million brothers and sisters in Gaza have struggled to survive in these conditions for the last 21 months”, the Turkish leader said.
Otherwise, his comments come as tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East, especially between Iran and Israel and the conflict enters the second week.
