The European Parliament has approved the report for Albania. At the foreign Commission meeting, the Eurodeputs stress Albania's broad political consensus and strong public support for membership in the European Union.
Urgent deepening of reforms in the country is required in the report, while political dialogue must be constructive and inclusive. Citing the May 11th elections, the document estimates they have been held in a polarised environment, and administrative resources have been used by the ruling party. For this reason, Eurodeputs call on Albanian political parties to commit to electoral reforms in line with O recommendations SBE/ ODIHR.
While an essential point has been put into justice reform, it says political interference remains a major challenge to fight.
Furthermore, key priorities include strengthening judicial independence, fighting corruption and organised crime, as well as protecting fundamental rights, where pluralism and media transparency remain essential to building public trust.
In the development plan, Eurodeputs approve the 922m-euro fund dedicated to the Western Balkans, which will support Albania's Reforms Agenda once the conditions are met.
The report prepared by Andreas Schieder has been approved by the Foreign Affairs Committee by 57 votes, 11 against and 6 abstentions./Periscopi/
