The American Embassy in Kosovo, commemorating June 12th, the day NATO forces entered Kosovo, said this event represents a turning point that paved the way to peace and enabled the return of displaced families.
The embassy honoured the stability of the people of Kosovo and the shared commitment to a future of peace and security.
“Today it is 26 years since NATO forces entered Kosovo, bringing hope, security and a path to peace. June 12, 1999, was a turning point ʹ that allowed displaced families to return and communities to begin rebuilding. On this anniversary, we honour the stability of the Kosovo people and our common commitment to building a future based on peace, security and prosperity”.
On June 12th 1999, after the end of the air campaign, NATO-led peacekeeping forces KFOR entered Kosovo, marking the end of the war.
