O ECD: Albania gets most expensive, worst roads in region

OECD data reveals a whole other reality by propaganda as roads are described as uncertain, the country suffers from lack of public transportation and the lack of a railway system, writes Laps.al, broadcasts Periscope.
According to the Citizen Centre, which has analysed the report, the problem is not lack of funds, but mismanagement of them. When a country spends more than everyone and remains last in the ranking, it is not about lack of money, but about abuse of public funds”, the organisation's statement said.
Only for road construction, Albania invests around 400m euros annually, with an average of 12.9m euros per km higher in the region. But as O notes ECD, these “gold road” result from among the weakest in quality and functionality.
The situation is particularly alarming in rural areas, where lack of road infrastructure and efficient connections has blocked local development. Railway transport is almost out of use -- a reality that contrasts with the government's goals of economic integration and approach to European markets.
O The ECD warns that without a clear strategy and well-managed and efficient investment, Albania risks staying on the sidelines of regional development and will not be able to realise its goal of membership in the European Union by 2030.
