An earthquake in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Marmaris in Turkey's Muğla province, caused panic in many cities.
The shocks were especially felt in Izmir and Antalya, but also in Aydın, Denizli and Manisa.
According to the AFAD (Director for Disaster Management and Emergency Management), the earthquake occurred at 2:17 a.m. and had a 5.8 magnitude. The epidera was 10,43 miles [10,43 km] from Marmaris, and the depth was determined at 27,91 km].
Unfortunately, a 14-year-old girl named Afranur Günlü lost her life as a result of a panic attack on Fethiye. Teams are still continuing search on the ground to verify if there are other damages, Sabah reports.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlicaya made a statement on social networks saying:
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at Marmaris in Muğla. Earthquake has also been felt in surrounding provinces. Under the co-ordination of the Prefect, the AFAD teams and other institutions are on the ground and the controls are continuing. According to first data, there are no collapses of city buildings. In Fethiye, our 14-year-old daughter, Afranur Günlü, was taken to hospital because of a panic attack, but unfortunately he could not be saved. In Muğla and the suburbs, 69 citizens were affected by panic or scurrying. 14 of them were treated at the scene, eight others were released after treatment, while 46 are receiving emergency treatment. We have mercy on the girl Afranur and comfort to her family. We wish for rapid recovery for all affected. God saved our country and our people from misfortunes”. /Periscope/
