Kosovo's incumbent government's decision to increase additions to employed and unemployed lehomas has prompted reactions and criticism of the legality of the move. Starting in July, unemployed Lebanons will receive an additional 325.9 euros for six months, while those employed will receive a similar amount for three months.
The incumbent Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said during the government's recent meeting that this increase is in line with the growth of the minimum wage, stressing that the decision is in the function of social support and economic equality.
However, Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Eliza Hoxha named the decision illegal and outside the competencies of a government in office. It also criticised the fact that a government with limited mandates is making decisions with major budgetary implications. “It is unacceptable for a prime minister in office to make such decisions without full competence, staying in the position illegally,” wrote Hoxha on Facebook, Express reports, broadcast Perixopi.
The total cost of implementing this decision, only for the rest of the year, is projected to be around 10m euros. And at the same meeting, the incumbent Government also approved the second half of the decision to raise salaries for the public sector, bringing the average salary from 755 to 865 euros. /Periscopi
