The court overturns Rama's indictment of Basha: There is no legal evidence and basis

The First Stairs Court in Tirana has dropped Prime Minister Edi Rama's indictment against former Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha, naming him unfounded in law and in evidence. Rama demanded a 1 million-dollar compensation for Basha's statements made on October 22nd 2018 by the DP headquarters, which he considered false and slanderous. He had also requested judicial spending and a public denial in the media that published those statements.
But, according to the court's ruling, after reviewing the circumstances and evidence presented, no sufficient elements were found to accept the indictment. As a result, judicial expenses are passed on to Rama as an indictment party.
“The Court of First Court of General Juriscition Tirana, Civil Chamber, on the 1106.2025 date after considering the trial hearing, in the presence of the prosecution's representative, request with the indictment: Edi Rama, indicted Lulzim Basha, objecting: “1. The indictee's obligation to pay off property damage, caused by the plaintiffs, as a result of false statements declared by him, from the headquarters of the Democratic Party, to campaign for the media by 22.10.18, in the amount of $1,000,000 (a million) and judicial and legal expenses. 2. The indictee's obligation to publish a denial in all media that have published the declaration or news on it, according to the list specified at point D.2 of the indictment request”.
Against that ruling, Rama has the right to appeal to the Court of Appeals within 15 days of announcing the rational decision. The decision was announced on June 11th 2025 in Tirana./Periscopi/
