UN confirms death of US citizen in Ukraine

The United States has condemned the Russian attack carried out overnight in Kiev, US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce has said on Tuesday, confirming the death of an American citizen in Ukraine. “We are aware of last night's attacks on Kiev, which have resulted in many victims, including death [...]
“We are aware of last night's attacks on Kiev, which have resulted in many casualties, including the tragic death of an American citizen. We condemn these attacks and express condolences to the families of the affected”, Bruce said at a news conference.
Kiev's chairman, Vitaly Klitschko, has said Tuesday that the American citizen, a 62-year-old, has died as a result of attacks in the city without providing more details.
Russia has levelled part of an apartment block Tuesday in Kiev, marking the deadliest attack in the Ukrainian capital this year, as hundreds of fears and dozens of rockets have killed at least 16 people and injured another 134.
Ukrainian officials have announced Wednesday day of mourning.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described the attack as one of the most terrible in the capital, from the start of the war in 2022.
Russian military troops are making efforts to penetrate the depths of Ukraine's eastern region and have opened a new front in the Sumi region in the northeast, despite US President Donald Trump's ceasefire calls.
The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.
