CEC: deadline for surrender of candidate lists opens 26 June

CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has said that for all of this, the CEC is scheduled for 49 days for political subjects. According to him, it is in the will of political subjects to decide in which municipalities to compete.

“Starting from 26 June to 13 August 2025, political parties, coalitions, civic initiatives and independent candidates can present to the CEC, the Office for Registering, Certificate and Financial Control of Political Subjects, their request to be certified for participation in the Commissionary Elections and Municipal Frameworks elections, respectively, which will be held on October 12th 2025. Unlike coalitions, civic initiatives and independent candidates, according to the Law for General Elections the registered political party is automatically certified. Also, during this period, political subjects must also hand over their lists with the names of candidates for the Communist Mayor or for Communist countries. It is entirely in the will of political subjects to determine in which municipalities will compete and hand over the list with the names of candidates for the respective municipalities”, Elez said.

For those candidates whether to run convicted persons for criminal acts, Elez said this issue is regulated at Article 30 of the General Election Law.

Kosovo Judiciary Council is one of the institutions the CEC will seek to verify candidates. In Article 30 of the Law for General Elections, it is stressed that the candidate cannot be a person if “has been sentenced in the last three years with a firm form for criminal action, with one or more years in effective prison”. Therefore, in order to implement this legal definition, we will ask the KDP to verify the candidate list if any of them are not in line with this legal restriction”, Elez stressed. / RTK/ Periscope.
