At a joint conference with Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, he has requested from competent prosecutor's offices that “do their job” and “not behave as incompetent and naive”.
He has commended the police for their professional <x0 quality behaviour and for the desire to defeat attackers with minimal use of force”.
There will certainly be more arrests of police attacks. This is not the end. Other individuals are being identified. The Agency for Security and Information is working in this direction”, Vuciq said.
During the police intervention, following a protest held in Slavija Square, 77 people have been detained, and 48 police officials have been injured, Minister Dacic announced on Sunday.
He has said the first clashes between several protesters and police started at 21:42.
“During the police intervention, 48 police officials -- 38 members of the gendarmerie -- two members of the brigade, seven police officials of the Police Intervention Unit and an official committed to operational security”, he has said.
According to Daciqi, a police official has serious head injuries.
According to official data, 22 people have been admitted to hospital centres, two with serious injuries.
Some protesters and police have clashed in downtown Belgrade after the end of the student protest in Slavija Square.
According to preliminary data from the Public Rally Archives, 140,000 people have gathered in protest “I'll see you at Vidovan”, while the Serbian Interior Ministry has said 36,000 attended the protest.
Students are demanding early parliamentary elections and the removal of a camp in the centre of the city, which has been deployed by other students, who oppose the blockade of faculties and support President Vuciq.
Students have blocked universities from November 2024, demanding responsibility for the deaths of 16 people in Novi Sad as a result of the collapse of a concrete shelter at the railway station in this city.
In addition to the student protest, a protest has been held Saturday by Vuciqi supporters, who have organised “literary evening”. / REL/ Periscopi/
