Albania's Assembly has ratified the agreement signed with Ukraine for long-term co-operation and support, which was reached in Davos, Switzerland, in January of this year.
Albania's Minister for Europe and European Affairs, Igli Hasani, has indicated that the agreement aims to, in line with its capacities, the Republic of Albania to provide political, military, technical, defence and humanitarian support to Ukraine as part of bilateral and international commitments.
“Albania has clearly shown it is on the side of international freedom and law”, the minister Hasani has declared.
At the parliamentary session, he has said that since the start of unprotested Russian aggression against Ukraine, launched in February 2022 Albania has clearly stood by the law, international law and Ukrainian people.
“As trusted member state NATO, we take the necessary responsibilities in protecting international order that guarantees peace and freedom for all”, he has said, among other things.
Albanian authorities have indicated that through this agreement, Albania will engage in four key areas: security and protection; accountability and international justice; humanitarian assistance and reconstruction; and response in cases of escalation, to ensure that it is prepared and in co-operation in every scenario.
Albania has also witnessed its support for Ukraine in the past, including through the organisation of the “Ukraine ʹ Southeast Europe”, which was held in the capital of Albania, Tirana, in February last year.
At the end of the summit, participants had adopted a 12-point declaration through which they have estimated that Russian military aggression against Ukraine remains the biggest threat to European security, and is in flagrant violation of international law, including the United Nations Charter, and is a crime against the Ukrainian people.
