Action against environmental degradation on the white Drini River, 17 arrested

A broad action against environmental degradation has been conducted by the Constitutional Prosecutor in Prizren, under chief prosecutor Petrit Kryeziu.

The main purpose of this operation was to stop environmental damage along the Drin White River, where 17 people have been arrested.

38 different tools have been seized, worth a total of about 2m euros. The arrests have been conducted in various areas, ranging from Krusha e Vogel to Landovica”, Kryeziu said.

He at a news conference said the action was the result of an intensive four-month investigation.

“We have conducted investigations into persons who have degraded the environment. These defendants have been operating since 2016. None of the economic operators have had licenses for extracting sand and gravel,”, he stressed.

The head of the Prizren prosecution body stressed in addition to detailed investigations, film materials collected during the day and night, believed to serve as solid evidence for prosecuting suspects.

“We have received footage day and night, and I believe we have managed to provide sufficient evidence to be brought to justice,” said Prizren's chief prosecutor before the media.

The action in question is considered one of the largest ever undertaken in the Prizren region for environmental protection, and comes as part of the institutional commitment to prevent irreversible damage to the country's nature. /Periscopi
