Japan's Meteorology Agency has warned residents to keep on the watch, stressing that seismic activity in the area has been growing and there have been similar periods in the past.
The land consists of 12 islands, of which seven are inhabited by about 700 inhabitants.
Some of these active volcanoes are tied to ferries in good weather.
