After the review, the Constitutional Court unanimously overturned the request... as unbaptised,” said in Thursday's official statement, adding that the decision is final and full reasoning will be published at a later moment, Reuters reports.
Simion, an ultranationalist pro-Trump figure critical of the EU, had claimed intervention by France and Moldova in favour of his opponent, Nicuır Dan, who won 53.6% of the vote.
Initially, he had conceded defeat, but two days later demanded cancellation of the result, naming the court's decision as continuing “State coup” and calling on “supporters to continue the fight”.
The Constitutional Court has continued the coup! All we have left is to fight! I urge you to join me, today and in the coming weeks, ” wrote Simion on social networks after the court's verdict was issued.
We remember that elections in Romania were repeated after the first attempt in November, due to violations in Russian campaign financing and interventions.
