Trump: Canada can join the Golden Cup missile shield free if it becomes a US state

US President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that Canada is considering “relinquishing its citizenship in exchange for protection from the proposed missile defence system “Golden Cup” without any cost, despite Canadian officials repeatedly declaring the country is not on sale, Fox News writes. “I told Canada, [...]
I said Canada, which desperately wants to be part of our wonderful Golden Cup system, that it will cost $61 billion if they remain a special nation, but it will cost zero dollars if they become our 51st country. They're looking into the bid”, Trump wrote on the Social Truth.
Trump has been threatening in recent months to annex Canada, an idea strongly rejected by Canadian officials and their citizens, transmits Telegrafi.
Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, who secured an election victory last month in part due to Canadian opposition to Trump's desire to make the country part of the US, told Trump earlier this month that his country “will never be on sale, ever since”.
King Charles III, who is known as Canada's sovereign, delivered a speech before the Canadian Parliament Tuesday, in which he seemed to reject Trump's idea of buying the North American country and making it the 51st state of the United States.
The Canadians can give themselves far more than any foreign power on any continent can ever receive. And this, by sticking to Canadian values, Canada can build new alliances and a new economy that serves all Canadians”, he said.

As for “Golden Cup”, Trump announced last week that the US had officially chosen architecture for the missile defence system that would create a network of satellites to detect, track and potentially catch the incoming ballistic missiles.
The US president said the project would cost $175 billion to build and that it is expected to be fully operational “” within three years. He also said Canada would be involved in its security net.
“Canada called us and they want to be part of it. So, we'll talk to them; they want to have also protection”, Trump said at that time.
Carney's office said last week that there had been active “differences between the US and Canada on current and new security programmes, including the “Golden Cup”.
“The Canadians gave the prime minister a strong mandate to negotiate a new comprehensive security and economic relationship with the United States”, Carney's spokesman for the BBC said.
For that purpose, the prime minister and his ministers are conducting extensive and constructive discussions with their American counterparts. These discussions, of course, include strengthening the North American Space Protection Command and related initiatives such as the Golden Cup”, the spokesman continued. /Periscope/
