His comment comes less than three weeks after a temporary commercial <x0 mnemocation” was reached between the two largest economies in the world, where the two economies agreed to lower the exchange rates of goods.
Bessent told Fox News on Thursday: “I think that given the size of the talks, given the complexity, this will require that leaders of both countries interact with each other”.
Global regime of Donald Trump tariffs suffered a blow Wednesday following a decision that he had overstepped his authority, reports BBC, broadcast Periscope.
Both the US and China confirmed they would lower the tariffs imposed on each other's imports earlier this month, following talks in Switzerland.
The agreement included the two countries canceling several tariffs completely and suspending others for 90 days until May 14th.
Bessent said talks on a further agreement had lost momentum, but stressed they were continuing.
“I believe we will hold more talks with [Kinna] in the coming weeks, and I believe that at some point we can have a call between President and [Chinese President Xi Jinping]”, Bessent said on Thursday.
He added that the pair had “a very good relationship” and was “convinced that the Chinese would sit at the negotiating table when President Trump announces his preferences”. /Periscope/
