The Special Prosecutor of the Republic of Kosovo has announced that investigations into the Dubrava massacre are towards completion, naming the case a key priority since EULEX's gaining competencies for investigating war crimes.
According to Special Prosecutor Nora Luta's spokeswoman, investigations were conducted in two ways. Currently, the Special Department of the Foundation Court in Pristina is under way in the trial of Gavrilo Milosavlevki, who is in custody. While it has announced that this process is expected to be completed within this month.
“While in the next case, against all defendants, we are at the conclusion of the investigation. At this stage we have identified about 88 defendants and interviewing over 400 witnesses,” wrote Luta in a Facebook post.
She stressed that so far it has been impossible to file charges against all suspects, due to the legal restrictions of the former Penal Procedure Code, which did not allow trial in absentia.
The “so far has been unable to establish an indictment for all suspects, since the former Penal Procedure Code has not enabled trial in absentia. While the judgment against Milosavlevki, which is located in the detention measure, is expected to be completed within this month.
