Serbian seniors in the north, Svechla: Kosovo does not allow provocations that endanger order, security

Kosovo's acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Svecla, has reacted today after the incident occurred during the celebration of seniors in northern Mitrovica, clarifying that the event had been warned and organised in accordance with the law, but that some participants have misused this festive event for provocative and political purposes. In a post on the social Facebook network, Svechla stressed that all citizens of Kosovo enjoy the right to organise and manifesto in public spaces, including activities of festive character, such as the defiling of seniors in the Northern Mitrovica municipality.
He made it known that the manifesto had been announced in advance in the law enforcement bodies, and for this reason the Kosovo Police had taken all necessary measures for its prosperity.
After the announcement, Kosovo Police have taken all steps that ensure full success of this manifesto”, Svechla said,
However, according to Svecles, during the event, some participants have tried to provoke with nationalist symbols and chauvinistic calls, including the “Kosovo slogan, is the heart of Serbia” and the use of the symbol of the three thumbs a gesture that in the context of Kosovo commemorates painful periods of history, including ethnic cleansing and genocide committed by the Serbian regime during the war.
Svechla denounced these actions, labeling them acts that undermine the spirit of coexistence and try to destabilise the security situation in the country.
“Symbols and such calls not only commemorate the ethnic cleansing and genocide Serbia committed in Kosovo but also manifest claims this state has on our Republic,” he stressed.
In this context, Svecla praised the Kosovo Police's professional response, which has intervened in time to avoid escalation of the situation and to maintain order and public security.
Kosovo's “Police have professionally taken the necessary actions in order to avoid further escalation,” said.
He recalled that Kosovo as a democratic state guarantees all civic rights, but will not allow these values to be used to promote tensions and promote ideology that stems from, as he said, “the Ottoman and prorus regime of Vuciqit”.
In concluding his statement, Svecla addressed Kosovo citizens with a call for caution and failure to engage in similar provocations, warning the efforts of official Belgrade and individuals like Milan Radojciq, who, according to him, aim at eskating and destabilizing the situation in Kosovo.
“I appeal to all citizens indiscriminately not to fall into similar provocations, as well as to appeal not to be instrumentalised by official Belgrade, and chief criminal Radojciq who want to exit and destabilise the situation in Kosovo”, Minister Svechla concluded.
