Scandal with wormy fish, Peci declares: It's within EU standards, I'm clear as tears

The minister's resignation, Faton Peci, has been declared for the first time about Periscop's reporting on the Food and Veterinary Agency scandal (AUV), where the latter kept the sale of fish with the dangerous worm on the Kosovo market. Peci, despite official documents sealed and signed by officials [...]
Peci, despite official documents sealed and signed by AUV officials -- clearly testify that hundreds of fish samples imported in our country have resulted from the Aizakis spa parasite, the same one has said it is a manipulation because according to him, the <x0-creet is within EU regulations.
However, Peci, when asked in the dpt show at Fidan in Klan Kosova, says he trusts official letters and communications among staff, but only gives responsibility.
“Pure Manipulation. There is, it's all within EU regulations. I'm not a profession, but I trust the official letters and communications they send. Me for every case, in AUV there's a huge number of officials since 2001. No inspector, veterinarian, sanitary. I've never even met one of them or have some coffee and I don't know anyone. Now you tell me, are you responsible? I give responsibility as far as I'm concerned. Since I've been born so far I'm as clean as tears for every process. There's no way I could interfere.
Do you know how a minister can be put in charge? A minister is placed before responsibility, if the official says “but I have introduced this criterion because the minister has pressured me. I've never introduced criteria for anything”Peci said.
Otherwise, these worms, up to three inches [3 cm] long, were observed freely during laboratory tests conducted from November 24, 2023 to February 6, 2024.
In documents provided by Periscope, it is evidenced of dozens of tests being conducted in the import fish that have resulted in worms.
The fish imported from Canada, Argentina, Spain and North Macedonia, of the Merluc (Hake fish), has been analysed in 28 samples in the AUV laboratory. All samples have resulted in contamination, but the scandal lies in the fact that no public announcement has been issued, and most of the fish has been allowed to be sold on the market.
By violating the law, the Food Agency has not yet provided any information for consumers, endangering the health of citizens.
AUV has only eliminated two loads and made public, while others have spread throughout markets and brands throughout the country. Thus, citizens, unawarely not only have bought but have cooked and consumed fish filled with worms. The two companies have lost their cargo, while other companies have been allowed to sell the fish with the Anisakis parasite.

“During the opening of each shipment and fish sample from the abdominal cavit, a mere number of nematod parasites from 3 to 10 parasites of the type Anisakis sp, which many have been spotted through the eye, has been observed in measurements from 17m (1.7 cm) to 31m (3.1 cm) in the shape of various stavs, and especially the 3rdx1) stend formats, reported in the report of the Bacterology Laboratory near the Food Agency and Veteria, where officials are involved in the laboratory report.

Law breaking, not informing citizens of danger
Legally, any food product that results in contamination, harmful to public or uncertain health must be stopped immediately from circulation, destroyed, and the consumer informed. In this case, not only have the other charges not been stopped, but the institution has kept silent, leaving no public notice, hiding tests and allowing operators to continue distribution.
According to the Food Law (No. 08/L-120), Food Agency is obliged to inform consumers immediately in case of danger. Article 6 of the law clearly stipulates that “in the case of danger from any food, the Agency is obliged to inform the public, state institutions and parties of interest”.
However, that did not happen. Rather, AUV has chosen to silence the danger by allowing a product with potential serious health consequences, such as serious allergies, gastrointrine infections, or even other complications, to be consumed freely in the market.
Alarmingly, in 2025 no analysis has been conducted of the presence of parasites on fish, raising serious doubts about a deliberate lack of control.
AUV responsible for the health of citizens, but chooses to remain silent
On September 19, 2024, The AUV has publicly declared it has eliminated 21 tonnes of contaminated fish, acknowledging the presence of worms. But this was only a small portion of the cargo, since the provided documents indicate that many other loads have been distributed freely.

Instead of cutting off distribution and informing the public, the Food Agency chose to keep the scandal hidden, allowing the sale of a dangerous product and directly endangering the lives and health of Kosovo citizens.
This institution reportedly does not meet the consumer criteria by law, but other quantities had allowed them to be sold in markets.
All at the end of the post as ironic, this legal obligation to care for food safety expresses determination that will not allow the sale of questionable products.
“AUV is determined not to allow any product on the market, which is not suitable for consumption”, says the post, not sticking behind this commitment to the rest of the wormfish.
Facts About Anisakis Worm
Anisakis spp's L3 laps are potentially harmful to man, according to institutions like EPSA (European Food Safety Authority) and CDC (Central Centers for Disease Control). They can cause anasachiasis, a parasitic infection that occurs when the caterpillar is not eliminated with sufficient heat or is not killed with deep freezing. Symptoms range from light (nause, pain) to severe (an allergic reactions, stomach infection, or intestines). The secured documents clearly prove that data has been hidden, economic operators tolerated, and public health has been endangered. In EU countries, when the fish results in Anisakis's parasite, the amounts left and citizens reported are destroyed.
All in the end, it's worth noting that only after Periscop reporting, AWAH had a reaction on this matter by not denying that a species of wormfish is being sold on the market, but he gave advice on how we can eliminate these visible worms. /Periscope.
